SDSU/Brookings Angel Fund, LLC, is a South Dakota Limited Liability Company, formed in 2007. It is a RAIN® (Regional Angel Investment Network) fund member of the Rain Source Capital network of funds headquartered in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The RAIN network consists of 24 funds, with over 350 members across six states in the upper Midwest. The SDSU/Brookings Angel Fund is assisted in administration by the Enterprise Institute.
Focus:
The SDSU/Brookings Angel Fund, LLC was created to selectively provide seed funding for area start-up companies in need of equity capital with the goal of spurring economic development . The typical investment in “entrepreneurial companies” generally falls into the $25,000-$100,000 range. In addition to investments made by the SDSU/Brookings Angel Fund, LLC, deals reviewed by the fund could receive investment from individuals within the fund. The SDSU/Brookings Angel Fund also has the ability to share favorable deals with other funds in the Rain Source Capital network.
Investment Profile:
The members of the SDSU/Brookings Angel Fund try to focus on those companies and deals, which meet as many of the following criteria as possible:
a) Solid business enterprise model
b) Deals most favored would be located and have economic impact within our region, defined generally to be the state of South Dakota and bordering states
c) Companies and/or deals, which create worthy jobs, skills and economic opportunity within the region
d) Enterprises, which are “intellectual property protected”, developed proof of concept, and have the ability to engage creation and distribution in a measurable market
e) Companies that show high growth potential with significant return on investment and a clear exit strategy over a 4-7 year time frame
f) The SDSU/Brookings Angel Fund, LLC is open to all industrial sectors, but would tend to support economic enterprise in the following niches:
- Companies located in incubators
- Companies engaged in agricultural support and/or enterprise
- Companies engaged in research and concept development (science-medicine)
- Companies engaged in value added agricultural enterprises
- Companies engaged in alternative energy production and/or conservation
- Companies that use technology to position businesses in rural areas
N2TEC Accelerator - Summer 2009
N2 TEC Accelerator 2009 Seeks Applications
April 1 st , 2009 is the application deadline for a new assistance program for technology entrepreneurs called N2 TEC Accelerator. This summer program is a collaborative effort of N2 TEC , Enterprise Institute, Innovation Campus, Small Business Development Centers and the South Dakota Technology Business Center and 2009 is the kick-off.
The N2 TEC Accelerator is designed to get technology businesses stared surrounded by a team of experts and great resources. Ten selected founding teams will be awarded $15,000 in seed grants to support their businesses during and eight week stay in South Dakota during June/July 2009. These start-up businesses will also benefit from mentor teams, industry experts, workspace, investor access and networking events.
Ideal applicants for this program will be technology-based start-up companies with a working prototype developed or in later stages of development that are ready to make the effort to launch and commercialize their businesses.
